AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE government has emphasized to leaders at grassroots level countrywide on the importance of registering people and keeping record.

Commissioner for Planning Commission Department, Ms Salama Ramadhan Makame, urged the local leaders to have up-to-date information about their respective areas.

She made the statement as part of a continued awareness campaign among the local government leaders over the importance of record keeping in Pemba Island.

“We need to have information about people, activities, successes and challenges to help us set development national plans,” Ms Makame said, calling for cooperation between citizens and leaders at the grassroots levels.

The commission’s planning officer Ibrahim Abdulla Abdulla said the availability of the reliable data will help the government to plan well for national development.

“Use the village register book for keeping important information that may be required in the planning process,” Abdulla said.
