Understand your history, Isle youth urged

ZANZIBAR youth have been challenged to routinely read the history of the country’s revolution to get a thorough understanding of their country’s background.

Speaking at the 56th Zanzibar revolution’s forum at Idrisa Abdul Wakil hall at Kikwajuni in the municipality here, Minister of Information, Tourism, Culture and Sports, Ali Abeid Karume said it was of great importance for the youth to understand all things that happened in their country.

He said appropriate knowledge of the country’s history among the youth will mould them into good citizens.

He said the social and economic development which the country has attained in the 56 years of the revolution, is a catalyst for service provision to wananchi.

The minister further implored the youth to turn up in big numbers to vote for the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) for sustained development.

One of the forum panelists, Ali Mzee Ali said the major aim of the 1964 Zanzibar revolution was to enhance rights, equality and good relations among the citizens.

He asked youth to closely follow up on the media to learn the country’s history. Debating, Abdallah Ahmed Suleiman argued that Zanzibaris should elect leaders capable of walking on the footsteps of the revolutionists and previous presidents.

The forum participants deliberated various topics on the life of Zanzibar founding President, Sheikh Abeid Amani Karume, the revolution and development.
