AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA) and the Dar es Salaam Region have resolved to work on key areas that will promote the national industrialisation agenda.

Speaking during the closing of one-day capacity building training of business committees from Dar es Salaam councils facilitated by EPZA, Regional Administrative Secretary Paulo Makanza said there was a need to establish many special industrial areas in the city to boost industrial growth.

“When we develop many special industrial areas in the city it will lead to more jobs, increase exports and foreign exchange to the country as well as building robust industrial economy,” he said, adding that with more industries in the region, council revenue would also increase.

He called on city residents and Tanzanians to cultivate a culture of seeking and getting the right information on investments made in the industrial sector, particularly those made under the EPZA.

EPZA Director of Planning and Development, Lamau Mpolo said short-term benefits of the city council officials’ capacity building training would improve service delivery in the industrial sector.

“We hope to see more friendly services to investors who come through the EPZA or other government institutions in search for a place to invest in the city council,” said Mr Mpolo.

He said in the long run both EPZA and Dar es Salaam City would establish investment areas together regardless of their differences in obligations, having in mind the country’s industrial economy.

He said the capacity building training’s objective was to build a common understanding of the two government institutions’ role and contribution to the industrial economy agenda. “We have agreed in principle that each institution has a role to play in making the industrial economy agenda a success,” he noted.

Dar es Salam City Acting RAS in charge of production and economy, Dr Elizabeth Mshote, said through training of officials the councils had learned the best way to establish and develop industrial projects.

“Capacity building training has helped to learn the best way of establishing industrial projects in Dar es Salaam councils through public-private partnerships,” she said.
