AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE government has commended Azam BakhressaGroup of Companies for tapping in the export market by trading products to as far off countries such as Malaysia and Yemen, and encouraged
them to continue promoting the country through their brands.

Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Investment), Angellah Kairuki, also hailed the company for creating massive employment, both directly and indirectly, and embracing state-of-the-art technology.

On Monday, Minister Kairuki toured several companies, including Bakhressa Food Products Limited, Omar Packaging Industries Limited and CRDB Bank, where she was briefed about the institutions’ successes and challenges.

“We commend you for putting emphasis on quality, and it should be noted that you have been instrumental in assisting the government in its desire to see import substitution.  Do not compromise quality of goods,” she said.

She encouraged the company to continue being innovative in seeking financing to expand their businesses, and vowed to support them in their quest to bridge skills gap in manufacturing goods.

The food products company uses local produce in manufacturing their products, working closely with both large scale and stall-holder farmers in curbing post-harvest losses.

Earlier, Salim Aziz, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bakhressa Food Products Ltd, told the minister that the company has invested over 1tri/- since it was established and employs over five thousand
people.

He, however, said that the country still suffers from the handicap of skills gap, and asked for government’s support to ensure that they hire needed experts in the manufacturing sector.

During the tour, Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) Acting Director of Investment Facilitation, Revocatus Rasheli, promised continued cooperation with the company since it is registered with the centre.

“We commend the company for its investments, and whenever the need arises, you are encouraged to consult with us.

To address the issue of employment of foreign experts, we recommend that you register more projects so that we can help you hire more foreigners,” he said
