AfricaPress-Tanzania: STAKEHOLDERS have advised for more creativity in eliminating all the hurdles for the country to promote potential investors and lucrative business opportunities for economic development.

The efforts include that of Blueprint for Regulatory Reforms to Improve the Business Environment, where a number of regulatory bodies changed to online systems, waived some repeated and stubborn charges which were delaying business startups.

He said currently, regulatory bodies like the National Identification Authority (NIDA) need to have their agency office close to those of the Business Registration and Licensing Agency (BRELA).

“This is a gesture that the country is determined to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracies,” said Prof Samwel Wangwe, a consult from Daima Associates.

Prof Wangwe said in Dar es Salaam on wednesday while presenting his preliminary findings in an ongoing survey on the government efforts of easing the environment of doing business in the country.

This, he said was a gesture of averting repetitive processes of registering business among the starting business. Prof Wangwe hailed the decision of charging the Value Added Tax at the end of quarter business, saying it is healthy to the country’s economy as it offers an ample time of focusing the venture capital into business’s growth.

However, the researcher and a consultant was quick to caution that there is a need for a clear system of harmonizing various taxes and levies which acts as tediousness.

“It is good that a number of fees among regulatory bodies have been waived. This is health for business, however, the challenge remains to different types of taxes, levies and charges among different regulatory bodies which need to be harmonized and some others written off,” he said.

Prof Wangwe highlighted that some of the procedures of starting up and running new business are not in a simple language, which necessitated extra cost of hiring a consultant.

He said that for example, filling files on BRELA website has some technical legal language, while it can easily be simplified to grant any layman an avenue of filing the forms on their own without paying a third party person for help.
