TADB, HEIFER INTERNATIONAL BOOST DAIRY PRODUCTION

AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE Tanzania Agriculture Development Bank (TADB), in collaboration with Heifer International, has lent heifers to residents and has constructed modern huts worth of 396m/- in Tanga Region.

Dairy livestock keepers have been empowered through their dairy cooperative unions – Chawamu, Uwama, Uwamki, Uwadaki and Uwako.

Heifer International before giving them heifers made sure joined them to dairy cooperative unions and organised a capacity building seminar to increase milk production through modern heifers because already had a reliable milk market, hence through sharpened skills they would enable them to increase production.

TADB Eastern Zone Manager Jeremiah Mhada said apart from dairy cattle livestock keepers were trained in how to increase milk production, financial management, record keeping, good livestock keeping management and business management.

“We as TADB by seeing the potential of milk production for the welfare of livestock keepers we decided to organise a capacity building seminar on financial management to increase incomes through our loans,” said Mr Mhada.

“Through our loans dairy livestock keepers got at least 156 heifers and 25 modern cattle huts aimed at boosting their milk production.”

For his part, Heifer International Project Director Mark Tsoxo urged dairy livestock keepers to form cooperative unions.
