AfricaPress-Tanzania: CHAMA cha Mapinduzi (CCM) parliamentary candidate for Biharamulo constituency, Ezra Chilewesia has promised to promote tourism by creating employment opportunities to the youth.
He made the pledges while addressing a campaign rally at Runazi Ward on Thursday.
“If elected MP, I will promote the Burigi-Chato National Park, thus creating employment opportunities to the youth. Tourism is a key sector I have in mind,” he said.
He cited other key sectors to include health, education, and water infrastructure, noting that he will cooperate with the district council authorities to provide an ambulance that will facilitate transporting pregnant women and children to nearby health facilities.
Mr Chilewesia said it was sad that a number of pregnant women die on the way before reaching hospital…” This is among priority areas I shall be addressing after the October 28 general election,” he said.
He appealed to Tanzanians to re-elect President John Magufuli, noting that CCM was capable and keen to address problems facing people, especially those at the grassroots level.
“Tanzanians should not make a mistake during the October 28 General Election….CCM is the only party that has the capacity to implement development projects listed down in the party’s manifesto, “ he said.
Expounding further, Mr Chilewesia said during the past five years (2015-2020) under President John Magufuli, Tanzania has won international fame through implementation of people-oriented projects.
He elaborated that health facilities increased from 7014 during 2015 to 8783 in 2020, while dispensaries increased from 6044 (2015) to 8783 (2020), while health centres increased from 718 (2015) to 1205 during 2020.
District Council Hospitals also increased from 77 during 2015 to 148 (2020), including 71 new hospitals.
“The government also constructed ten regional hospitals, including Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Hospital in Mara Region which was stalled since 1970. Other achievements include the rehabilitation of the New MV Victoria Hapa Kazi Tu steamer, which has revived transport along Lake Victoria, and the rehabilitation of old schools, including Ihungo and Bukoba secondary schools which were badly damaged by the September 10, 2016 earthquake, “ he said.
During 2015-2020 period, eight out of nine constituencies in Kagera region were led by CCM Legislators.
The constituencies with outgoing MPs in brackets include Bukoba Rural (Jasson Rweikiza), Muleba South (Professor Anna Tibaijuka), Muleba North (Charles Mwijage), Missenyi-Nkenge (Dr Diodorus Kamala).
Ngara (Alex Gashaza), Biharamulo (Oscar Mukasa), Karagwe (Innocent Bashungwa) and Kyerwa (Innocent Bilakwate).
Bukoba Urban Constituency was led by Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) by Wilfred Lwakatare, who recently defected to Civic United Front (CUF).
