HIGH COURT OF TANZANIA COMMEMORATES 100 YEARS IN BUSINESS

AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE High Court of Tanzania is today (Ferbruar 1, 2021), commemorating its 100 years of existence in the country from 1920 to date.

Speaking during the ongoing event at Chingali in Dodoma City, the Chief Justice of Tanzania, Ibrahim Hamisi Juma first applauded the late Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage saying ‘the High Court was built through his hands and efforts.”

He further noted that Mwl Nyerere played a great role in establishing the current existence of a firm and efficient Court in the country, citing also his achievement of establishing the University of Dar es salaam that produces Law graduates and professionals.

In his speech, he said the High Court of Tanzania thereafter has been struggling to get rid of foreign Judges and other servants and replace them with nationals.

Equally, the Chief Justice narrated how the country in 1970 started the High court with 9 Judges, where 4 of them were nationals and the rest foreigners, adding: “Generally, the High Court of Tanzania has made great development by becoming a free court.”
