AfricaPress-Tanzania: PRESIDENT John Pombe Magufuli has left an indelible mark on Tanzanians for his dedicated heart of bringing development to his people, Zambia President Edgar Lungu said yesterday in Dodoma.
Dr Magufuli will be greatly remembered for his great contribution to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries, especially when he chaired the bloc for one year from August, 2019 to August 2020.
Expressing condolences at the state funeral held on Monday at Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma, Zambian President Edgar Lungu said Dr Magufuli will remain in his heart forever.
“On our part as Zambians, our strong bond of friendship is cemented through, among other things, historic projects such as Tazara and Tazama oil pipeline,” said Mr Lungu.
He said he remembered in 2016 when they met and launched joint services in Nakonde, Dr Magufuli managed to speak to people on both sides of Zambia and Tanzania. Mr Lungu described the late Mafuguli as a revolutionary who was straightforward in carrying out his duties.
“I remember in 2016 when we launched a community service centre in Nakonde border. What I remember most is his heart to motivate people on both sides when he spoke to our people at the border. For improved trade not only to the two countries but for the entire Africa and to me personally, he was not only a revolutionary but my best friend, and I will miss him very much”. Explained Mr Lungu.
He said as they continue to mourn, the thoughts of Zambians were towards Tanzanians and the family of Dr Magufuli and pray to God to help them. “At the moment, the thoughts of Zambians are on the minds of Tanzanians and the late Magufuli’s family, asking God to help them reduce their pain and increase their strength” added Mr Lungu
