AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE Deputy Minister in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government) Mwita Waitara has urged parents to see into it that their children are safe in homes, as the government battles COVID-19 spread in the country.

He said that it would be irresponsible on the side of any parent to exploit the situation, and in turn send a child to the streets to sell agricultural produce like bananas to boost family income.

“Parents should take care of their children in order to prevent them from contacting the coronavirus. They should stop sending them to market(s) or auction streets,” Mr Waitara told the ‘africa-press’ in Mara region yesterday.

He further said that the government closed schools in order to ensure that pupils remain safe in homes as authorities strategize to limit spread of the disease.

“It would be meaningless if we will allow school children again to go to school, just because their parents have failed to protect and keep them in homes,” the Deputy Minister insisted.

Meanwhile, coronavirus is increasingly becoming a global problem that is forcing individual countries to take measures including closing schools in order to limit its spread.
