AfricaPress-Tanzania: A day after President John Magufuli gave shocking revelation on Covid-19 test kits, Minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children Ms Ummy Mwalimu has formed a special team that would probe operations at the National Health Laboratory (NHL).
Ms Mwalimu has also instructed the ministry’s Permanent Secretary to suspend the director of NHL, Dr Nyambura Moremi and Quality Assurance Manager, Jacob Lusekelo while the institution goes under investigation.
In a statement issued in Dodoma, on Monday by the ministry’s communication unit, the team of ten members from different institutions will complete the assignment and submit a report to the minister before May 13, this year.
The team will be chaired by Prof Eligius Lyamuya from the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS).
Other members with their institutions in the bracket are Prof Said Aboud (MUHAS), Prof Gabriel Shirima (Nelson Mandela Institute of Science and Technology -NMIST),Prof Steven Mshana of Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS), Prof Rudovick Kazwala Sokoine Universoty of Agriculture (SUA) and Dr Thomas Marandu from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM).
The list also includes Dr Mabula Kasubi from Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), Dr Danstan Hipolite from Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) as well as Ms Viola Msangi and Mr Jaffer Sufi who are the retired laboratory technicians.
