TANZANIA has a lot to learn from China as it works towards economic transformation and improving people’s lives, Vice-President Ms Samia Suluhu Hassan stated yesterday.
The vice-president made the remarks in her speech to celebrate Chinese New Year, read on her behalf by the Minister of State –Environment and Union, George Simbachawene Saturday evening in Dar es Salaam.
“China has made great strides in economic, social and cultural transformation. Efforts of lifting 10 million people from poverty every year are among the things Tanzania is ready to learn from this East Asian nation as we’re working hard to improve people’s lives through sustainable economic development,” she said.
Mama Samia said provided that the two countries have enjoyed historical bilateral relations, Tanzania has a burning desire of learning and emulating on the methods China uses to combat corruption, and promote peoplecentered development agendas which has seen more than 700 million Chinese graduating from poverty and making such country become second global economic giant.
“Let us continue holding each other’s hands and move forward together in solidifying diplomatic ties for a winwin progress of our people,” she pleaded.
The celebrations were attended by the China community living in Tanzania, led by the country’s envoy to Tanzania Ms Wang Ke who also stressed on the role of cementing diplomatic relations among the two countries for common end.
Others who attended the event were ambassadors representing their countries in Tanzania and members of the Tanzanian community who studied in China.
