NAMIBIA PRESIDENT APPLAUDS MKAPA FOR STELLAR LEADERSHIP

AfricaPress-Tanzania: PRESIDENT Hage G. Geingob applauds late President Benjamin Mkapa for stellar contributions to the Independence of Namibia and strengthening of democratic governance in Africa.

President Geingob has learned with sadness about the passing of the former President of the United Republic of Tanzania, His Excellency Benjamin William Mkapa.

Former President Mkapa passed away late on Thursday, 23 July 2020.

In his message of condolences to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, His Excellency John Pombe Magufuli, President Geingob says: “Following the passing of the former President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E Benjamin Mkapa, a brilliant son of Africa and Tanzania, I join the international community in extending my most sincere condolences to my dear brother, President John Pompe Magufuli and the people of Tanzania.

A third-wave leader, Mzee Mkapa contributed immensely to the development of Tanzania and the strengthening of democratic governance in Africa.

Namibians, owe him a particular debt of gratitude for his active role in favor of independence for our country during the time he served as Foreign Minister.

During this difficult time of grief, I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to his wife, Madame Anna Mkapa, the children, the entire family and the people of the United Republic of Tanzania.”

President Mkapa was elected the third President of the United Republic of Tanzania, leading the country from 1995-2005
