AfricaPress-Tanzania: AT least 22 nationals from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Burundi on Thursday arraigned at Mpanda District Court in Katavi Region for illegal entering the country.

Among them 18 nationals are from Burundi and four from DRC, who are among 40 illegal immigrants arrested last week by Katavi Regional Immigration Department.

Katavi Regional Immigration Officer Assistant Commissioner Vincent Haule told reporters during a media briefing that among the arrested illegal immigrants, 23 were from Burundi and five from DRC, while 12 were yet to be identified from where they came from.

“Six illegal immigrants, among them five are Congolese and a Burundian national, will be repatriated to their country of origins,” added Mr Haule.

He further explained that the arrest of 40 illegal immigrants was made possible following a recent crackdown carried out at the villages of Ikola, Kabungu, Magamba, Mparamawe and Majalila in Tanganyika District.
