RC TELLS STAFF TO KEEP OFF POLITICS

AS the nation gears up for the October General Election, the Rukwa Regional Commissioner, Mr Joachim Wangabo, has warned civil servants in his office against acting as agents of political parties.

He has similarly warned them against posting copies of confidential documents on social media platforms, saying the practice was against civil servants code of conduct.

The RC noted that a few civil servants in his office acted as agents of some politicians, citing the behaviour as a contravention of the said code to which they were enjoined to adhere.

“As the nation is heading towards the October General Election, some civil servants have opted to engage in politics; we should remember that we are civil servants and thus prohibited to engage in politics at places. “Senior officials attached to the regional secretariat should avoid being agents of politicians … some civil servants post confidential documents on social media platforms; this is absolutely improper,” he added.

Similarly, Mr Wangabo urged civil servants in his office to reduce the use of telephone handsets at workplaces, instructing the Regional Administrative Secretary, Mr Bernard makali, to ensure that networks set in the offices were only used exclusively for office business.

He furthermore directed that staff in the RC’s office should be trained on customer care skills in order to serve visitors properly.

Mr Wangabo issued the instructions and directives while addressing the Regional Secretariat’s senior officials during a meeting held in his office meant to evaluate the work performance in 2019.
