AGC IGNITES HOT PURSUIT FOR 36-HOLE GOLF TITLE

AfricaPress-Tanzania: EVERYTHING is in place for the annual Arusha Open Golf Championship to take Gymkhana course here by storm this weekend.

The national championship which is set to tee off this Saturday will wind up on Sunday at par 72 Arusha Gymkhana Club course.

It is an open tournament whose overall prizes are open for any best gross scorer of two-day 36 holes event.

The Arusha Gymkhana’s golf captain Kasim Somji told the ‘africa-press’ from Arusha yesterday that preparation for the two-day event is almost complete and golfers are keen to grab the event’s top prize.

He said invitation has been sent to all local golf clubs and that they expect good response from them before yesterday evening’s deadline for those wishing to take place in the event.

The organisers said golfers who wish to take place pay 30,000/- as entry fee.

“We are very happy that everything is going fine, all preparations went smooth too and what we all looking for is to see a bumper entry,” he added.

Adding, Somji said the annual tournament is sponsored by Reliance Insurance and the management is very grateful to have them at the course.

The captain said the invitation has also been sent to all members of Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) so to enable them make arrangement and travel to Arusha as the draw would be ready by today.

Apart from the two overall gross winners’ prizes, there will be overall net winner, Day 1 and Day 2 net winners.

In the prize list, according to the captain, the tournament will also award Division A, B and C and senior, ladies and junior winners of the event.

“We are grateful to sponsors who have prepared the tournament and hefty prizes for the winners of the different categories, refreshment, bites, and lunch for all participants will also be available,” he said.

The captain is optimist that all participants will enjoy the course and event in the annual tournament.

Arusha Open is among the tournaments that have been rescued after many others were halted globally due to coronavirus scare.

Lugalo Open and CDF Trophy staged at the Tanzania people’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo golf club are the only national level events that survived from the scare.
