AfricaPress-Tanzania: AGA Khan Sports Club Cricket Team (AKSC) has elevated to the third place of the Kazim Nasser Memorial T-50 Cricket League for Division A increasing their chances to command the race.
AKSC are left with two more games to command the league just as Strikers A, to clear their way to the semis, while their top rivals Gymkhana, Caravans and Aces are left with a game.
AKSC increased their hope on Sunday after they registered a seven-wicket win over Aces at Gymkhana oval.
Thus, they have collected four points with 0.43 net runs rate, similar to Caravans who are second, but superior in net run rates of 0.45.
AKSC advantage is on their second game against General Petroleum (GP) on Sunday, where if they win, they will have maximum points equivalent to the leaders Gymkhana.
AKSC’s next encounter is expected to be an easy one if they maintain consistency of their quality as their opponents GP have already lost hopes of this year’s league title after being fixed at the bottom having lost all four games.
Whether GP win or lose, they will not elevate to the semis as all other teams have won two games and collected four points each.
On the standing, their opponents Aces have also collected four as well, but are positioned forth in the log, as they have collected 0.10 net runs rate less to Caravans and AKSC.
At the fifth are Strikers A who have played three games, won twice and lost once. They have then collected four points and -0.33 net runs rate, seem to have improved their net runs rate to secure the top post, but they must win two remaining games as runs rate will not be an issue unless AKSC lose one of their two games.
The semis require two top teams; the first, second, third and fourth positioned teams in the league.
Until now, five teams have an equal chance to be in the semis, but require wins to ensure they are safe on top four.
The Tanzania Cricket Association Communication Officer, Atif Salim clarified that the T50 format semis is not as same as T20 format, but usually the first team meets the third and second face the fourth.
