CECAFA GAINS POWER, BRINGS U-20 DUELS TO DAR

AfricaPress-Tanzania:  TANZANIA has been selected by the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Secretariat to host AFCON qualifiers for Under 20 players.

The competitions will commence from November 22nd to December 6th 2020 and ten nations have confirmed to participate.

Among the countries are Somalia, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Eritrea, Sudan, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya.

Rwanda has also been selected to host AFCON Under17 qualifiers from December, 13th to 28th this year.

There are ten nations which have agreed to participate in the event similar to those confirmed to participate in U-20 event of Tanzania.

In reference to the press statement, stated that the “qualifier Tournaments will feature 10 teams which will be in two pools.”

“After the pools stage, the top two teams will proceed to the semi-finals. The Secretariat will later announce the dates for the draw of the tournament.”

Whereas the Secretariat has made it aware of the restrictions in different member countries on social gatherings, travel and medical preparedness is concerned.

“The host countries should therefore give the necessary assurances to the participating teams on the wellbeing and precautions around Covid-19.”

“Further note that all participating teams will be responsible for their respective countries requirements including Covid–19 testing and other protocols required by their governments prior to departure back to their home countries after the Tournament.”

Meanwhile, Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has confirmed that the women senior and Under 17 national teams are set to participate in the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA).

Both competitions will be stage in South Africa, whereas it will begin with the senior national teams event from November 3rd to 14th and the Under 17 event to begin from November 5th to 13th.
