ISANGI NEW AT PRESIDENT

AfricaPress-Tanzania: SILAS Isangi has been elected new Athletics Tanzania (AT) president during the General Elections held at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam at the weekend.

He earned 15 cast votes against eight of his close challenger, Rahin Kalyango with whom he tied four times in the balloting before he emerged winner.

The first round saw Isangi earning eight cast votes as Kalyango tied up with a former marathon legend, Juma Ikangaa with seven cast votes, respectively.

John Bayo emerged new vice president, after earning 15 cast votes while his challenger, Jackson Ndaweka got six.

Michael Washa emerged executive committee member from the Central Zone with 22 cast votes while Alfred Shahanga won the same position from the Northern Zone with 13 cast votes while Amon Mkoga won from the Western Zone with 18 cast votes.

Christina Panga was elected as women’s representatives with 13 cast votes when she beat her challenger, Eva Gidabuday with nine cast votes.

The former AT president, Anthony Mtaka and his former vice president, William Kalaghe did not participate in the elections after their names were omitted by the electoral committee in the screening process.
