AfricaPress-Tanzania: BONGO Flavor musician Kala Jeremiah and varieties of sports thrilled fans thronged at Kaitaba stadium during Jambo Sports Bonanza.
Kala Jeremiah whose hits carry good messages did well to entertain the music and sports fans. Among his top selling hits include Corona Ipo, Rafiki and Natabiri.
Speaking during the bonanza, Kagera Regional Commissioner Brigadier General Marco Gaguti commended development partners who support government initiatives to improve education and health sectors and assured them of continued cooperation.
He made the remarks yesterday while opening a Jambo Sports Bonanza which drew more than 240 pupils and sports teachers from eight district councils of Kagera at Kaitaba Stadium in Bukoba.
The primary schools include Byamtemba (Missenyi), Rugasha (Kyerwa), Kanoni (Karagwe), Kiziramuyaga (Muleba), Nyakiziba (Ngara), Kaishaza (Bukoba DC), Ntungamo (Biharamulo) and Nyamkazi (Bukoba MC).
While opening the bonanza, Bukoba District Commissioner, Deodatus Kinawiro thanked Jambo for Development for the support also appealing to other NGOs to borrow a leaf.
“On behalf of the government, I thank Jambo for Development for the support in improving education sector through construction of classrooms, toilets, teachers’ houses and improving water and sanitation. The support has greatly improved the academic and teaching environment in the region,” he said.
Gaguti also directed District Executive Directors in the region to ensure that construction of classrooms is completed before end of March, this year to enable all children to attend school.
Elaborating, he said the government allocated a huge budget to allow children to attend free education.
Similarly, he directed them to ensure value for money by ensuring that the buildings are constructed to the required standard.
Gaguti also tasked the Councils to ensure that primary schools were allocated land title deeds to safeguard their properties including playing grounds.
Manager for Jambo Development, Steven Gonzaga informed him that during 2021 the institution had set aside a budget amounting 1.2bn/- for improving education sector compared to 203m/- spent last year.
He explained that their vision was better health, education and gender equality adding that since 2013 Jambo for Development has been organising the bonanza.
Also, he said the organisation would construct a sports academy.
