AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE Government has hailed the Kilimanjaro Marathon for its tremendous growth and immense contribution to the economy of Kilimanjaro region and country in general.
The organisers were lauded during the official launch of the 19th edition of the Kilimanjaro Marathon 2021 held recently in Dar es Salaam by the Assistant Director of Sports in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Alex Nkeyenge, who represented the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Ali Possi, said the grand race has greatly contributed to the growth of sports tourism in the country as evidenced through the forex it contributes.
“The event attracts more than 25,000 visitors in Moshi for almost a whole week, including participants and spectators who also enjoy tourist activities and promote other economic activities in Moshi,” he said.
Nkenyenge called on business people to take advantage of the event, not only to use the opportunity to make more profits but also strive to deliver quality products and services.
He also called on other marathons in the country to emulate Kilimanjaro Marathon for the manner in which it has consistently adhered to the IAAF and Athletics Tanzania guidelines hence growing year after year and attracting sponsors and participants from both in and outside the country
