AfricaPress-Tanzania: A CALL has been made to sport stakeholders in the country to invest in women football so as to promote it to the international level.
This was said recently by the national women team Twiga Stars Assistant Coach, Edina Lema as she gave an overview insight on the progress of women football in the country.
“So far, I can say things have improved a lot comparing to the past because of a continued awareness programme on the importance of women football in the country,”.
“Twiga Stars are a very good example as far as the issue of success is concerned. They have won many titles they competed for and the only remaining is for them to be promoted to feature is in the FIFA Women’s World Cup,” she said.
Adding, Lema who is also Yanga Princess Head Coach named some of the success stories stamped by women football as qualifying for All African Games in 2015, winning CECAFA twice in 2016 and 2018, as well as winning COSAFA Under-17 Women’s Cup.
“These are some of the notable achievements made by the senior women team which need to be acknowledged but, because of poor concentration on women football, few people are aware of them. “It is true that Twiga Stars have achieved more in comparison with their male counterparts (Taifa Stars) that is why we are seeking for more investment in this women football sector to give it the required attention of which I am sure that soon, all things will be fine,” she said.
