AfricaPress-Tanzania: Paid boxer Hassan Mwakinyo has said his long-term strength training is aimed at doing well in the upcoming bout against Zimbabwean boxer Brendon Denes.
The 12-round ABU Championship qualifier is expected to be played on April 9, in Dar es Salaam.
The protest was originally scheduled for March 26, but was postponed following the death of President John Magufuli and the government declared a 21-day mourning period.
Speaking to this newspaper recently, Mwakinyo said he is practicing strength because he does not want to despise any opponent, but to put himself in a good position to win.
“Even if the opponent is young you can’t ignore him. It’s important to organize yourself by knowing what your fans want. I always want to win because I have goals,” he said.
Mwakinyo, who started training for a long time, said he was afraid of going backwards after a national tragedy but believed things would be better.
“The truth is I did not want the fight to be postponed but we did not have a way because the tragedy that happened is great, it hurt me because I was practicing strength and it hurts, I believe things will go well,” he said.
