AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE organisers of Mapinduzi Cup said yesterday here that a total of 496.178, 400/- has been collected in the just ended tournament as a gate collection.

The tournament that drew nine teams from Tanzania Mainland and the Isles, climaxed on January 13th at Amaan Stadium here and Young Africans clinched the coveted after a 4-3 spotkick victory over their traditional rivals Simba.

Speaking with reporters at VIP Amaan hall, the tournament’s competition secretary Imane Duwe said the money was collected from the gates and sponsors’ support.

Elaborating he said 256,478,400/- was fetched from gate collection while sponsors poured 239,700,000 with 150m/- coming from Azam.

He said the Dar es Salaam derby that came to Zanzibar raised 79,245,000/- which he said was the biggest amount collected from a single match.

He said they have remained with 141,703,900/- after footing allowances of teams and players, international transport and electricity and other stadium expenses.

Besides the Dar es Salaam football giants; Simba and Young Africans, other teams that brightened this year’s tournament are Azam, Namungo and Mtibwa Sugar from the Mainland while the Isles envoys were Mlandege, Malindi, Jamhuri and Chipukizi.

Meanwhile Zanzibar football governing body(ZFF) conducts the Annual General Meeting today, the first meeting since the officer bearers came to power in May, 2019.

The federation’s Acting Secretary General, Kibabu Haji Hassan said the meeting will be officially graced by Zanzibar Urban West’s Regional Commissioner Idrissa Kitwana.

He said previously the meeting was supposed to be conducted on January 9th but was postponed to today due to undisclosed reasons.
