AfricaPress-Tanzania: IN preparations for the resumption of international cricket tournaments, the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) has organised the so-called TCA T20 Super League that saw Serengeti Giants winning by eight runs over Tembo Warriors at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) ground.

Tembo batted first to score 86 runs all out with Ivan Ismail taking 28 from 23 balls and was followed up by an all- rounder Vishal Patel with 15 before he was caught up by Seif Khalifa. Khalifa also took out Issa Kikasi who bagged up 13 runs.

Serengeti had an easy chase to score 94/10 with major contributions coming from the duo of wicket keeper Mohamed Omary and an all-rounder left handed Zamoyoni Ramadhani, who had 33 and 17 runs, respectively.

The tournament, according to TCA’s information officer, Atif Salim, is basically aimed at giving T20 experience to local players since most of the current international events are held in that format.

TCA is expected to field teams in various ICC tournaments for Africa region that are expected to resume depending on stability of Coronavirus global situation.

They will be subjected to Covid-19 arrangements if required at that time.

Among other events is ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa B Qualifier expected to be held in South Africa in April. South Africa is one of the African countries heavily hit by the global pandemic.   Apart from Tazania, other countries expected to field teams are Botswana, Cameroon, Mozambique, Sierra Leone and St Helena.

The South African event will be among other series announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as the pathway for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia which is set to take place in October and November 2022.

The 15 spots in Australia will be decided through a four-step qualifying process which starts in April 2021. 11 regional qualification tournaments across five regions have been rescheduled to 2021, due to Covid-19 and will now feed into the 2022 Australia event.

The 16 available spots in the Global Qualifiers will be filled by one team each from the Africa and EAP Qualifier respectively. They will be joined by two teams each from the Americas and Europe qualifiers. Finally, Asia which has a Qualifier A and B will see one team from each event make up the eight spots from regional qualification.

The remaining eight spots will go to the four bottom teams from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and together with Nepal, Singapore, UAE and Zimbabwe which have gained direct entry based on their MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings.

Four teams from the two global qualifiers will join hosts Australia and the 11 automatic qualifiers from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 to make up the 16-team Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
