AfricaPress-Tanzania:  TANZANIA Shotokan Karate-do Association (TKA) has started preparations for the Gasshuku Karate camp and seminar to be held later this year in Ruvuma regional capital, Songea.

The organizers said they have already started preparing the three-day camp that will start on December 4th and climax three days later.

TKA and World Karate Federation (WKF) instructor, Sensei Jarome Mhagama says preparation is on a top gear for the much awaited karate camp to be held for the first time in Ruvuma region.

He said the camp will be accompanied with the seminar which has also been organised annually.

“We have been doing this annually in different regions. Last year we had a successful one in Morogoro and this time around we have shifted it to Ruvuma,” he said.

Mhagama said the seminar aims to promote and develop karate skills as well as using it as a platform for the assessing the standard of the game in the country.

He urged karatekas in Ruvuma to start preparing for the event and come forward in a big number.

Mhagama was optimist that players will be ready for the event despite being affected by hiatus from March to June due to coronavirus scare.

Like any other sports, karate activities were also affected by COVID-19 outbreak, though TKA had benefited from World Karate Federation efforts to help players during the hiatus by introducing online training session.

WKF introduced online training sessions from different instructors, which according to TKA benefited national team’s preparation too.

The TKA Communication officer, Elisiana Katani was recently quoted as saying that the online session has been very helpful for individuals and a team at large.

World Karate Championship is held after every three years and rotates among members.
