AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE Mainland Premier league champions, Simba Sports Club edged the Isles’ Mlandege 3-1 in a friendly match held at Azam Complex in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam.
Mlandege failed to handle Simba pressure mounted from the onset despite trying to make some resistance.
Simba did not wait to destroy their opponents as Chris Mugalu opened the scoring as early as in the seventh minute.
In the 16th minute, Ibrahim Ame made things worse for the visitors as he unleashed home a ball that went into the net untouched.
Mugalu was on the mark again in 67th minute when he dodged Mlandege’s goalie to easily send the ball into the net.
A struggling Yahya Haji scored a consolation goal for Mlandege, after his several attempts to penetrate into simba’s strong defence marshaled by a Kenyan experienced defender, Joash Onyango.
Despite losing by a big margin, Mlandege’s defence stood firm to thwart what could be ‘disastrous’ at their goal area. Salim Hamis of Mlandege replaced Haji in their ‘wee hours’ attempts to look for another consolation goal.
But their substitution did not work for their side. The match, according to Simba SC officials, was aimed at preparing the Mainland champions ahead of their forthcoming league assignment.
Simba will play against the Tanzania Prisons on October 22 at Nelson Mandela Memorial Stadium in Sumbawanga.
Simba coached by Belgium’s Sven Vandenbroeck assisted by former club player, Seleman Matola started the league season on a right foot, winning four out of five matches, after the other one drawing 1-1 with Mtibwa Sugar of Morogoro.
The technical bench had therefore hard task to make sure that Simba beat the isles side, Mlandege and create a ‘winning atmosphere’ ahead of their important away league match.
