AfricaPress-Tanzania: Ghana made a strong start to the Africa Cup of Nations U-20 by sweeping aside Tanzania 4-0 at the Stade de Nouadhibou in Mauritania on Tuesday.

The West Africans wasted no time racing into the lead in just the third minute through Percious Boah who sent in a long-range free kick.

Just as Tanzania appeared to be growing in the game, Ghana struck again with Abdul Fatawi lobbed Tanzanian goalkeeper Daniel Mgore a few yards away from the halfway line for a 2-0 halftime lead.

Boah grabbed his second in the 71st minute with a brilliant dribble ad thumping finish to make it 3-0 to the Black Satellites.

Josephlo Barnes rounded off the scoring a minute before the end of normal time latching onto Mathew Cudjoe’s excellent pass to slot past Mgore.

The other group match at the same venue saw former champions Morocco edge past Gambia with El Mehdi El Moubarik’s first-half penalty earning them a 1-0 win.

The results mean Ghana tops Group C on three points, ahead of Morocco on goal difference followed by Gambia and Tanzania, respectively.

Wednesday’s games will see hosts Mauritania take on Mozambique while Cameroon and Uganda lock horns in Group A.
