Africa-Press – Uganda. Municipality Member of Parliament Michael Kakembo Mbwatekamwa has expressed regret over joining the National Unity Platform (NUP), saying he should have remained with the Democratic Party (DP), a decision he believes would have better aligned with his political ideals.
While appearing on Sanyuka TV on Thursday morning, Kakembo issued a scathing critique of the opposition’s current leadership, accusing it of strategic failure and exclusionary politics.
“The opposition is currently led by individuals who are falling short. Politics is a process that requires building and strategy. For the opposition to be effective, we need to foster unity and value everyone’s opinions,” Kakembo stated.
He criticised the recent opposition move to walk out of Parliament as a protest against government actions, calling it a political blunder.
“It would be more honest to tell our people that, as opposition members, well will not participate in the elections. Walking out of Parliament was a mistake,” he added.
Kakembo also lamented that minority reports submitted by opposition MPs during key parliamentary debates were disregarded.
“What hurt the most was that our ideas were not heard. Minority reports were submitted, but they were ignored,” he said.
Kakembo praised Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko, describing his independent approach as commendable.
“What Nsereko did was commendable. If he decided to return and run for MP Kampala Central, he would win,” he said.
