Africa-Press – Uganda. Julius Kakeeto, the managing director of Post Bank, has been re-elected as the chairperson of the Uganda Bankers’ Association (UBA).
The UBA serves as the umbrella organization for financial institutions that are licensed and overseen by the Bank of Uganda.
Kakeeto’s re-election took place during the UBA’s Annual General Meeting held last Friday, where it was decided that the Central Executive Committee (CEC) would be reappointed for another term.
“Mr. Julius Kakeeto, CEO of PostBank Uganda was reappointed to serve as the Chairperson for the 2025 – 2026 term. We wish you the best as you serve!” UBA stated.
Kakeeto first took on the role of chairperson last year, succeeding Sarah Arapta, the CEO of Citibank, who held the position from 2021 to 2023.
After his reappointment, Kakeeto expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him by the banking industry and his colleagues to continue leading the organization.
He noted several accomplishments during his tenure, including an 8% growth in total industry assets, reaching Shs53.6 trillion, the launch of the ESG framework, and enhanced collaboration with key stakeholders across regulatory, policy, legislative, judicial, and professional sectors.
“We also organized significant conferences, such as the Annual Bankers Conference, the Women Economic Empowerment Summit, the Bancassurance Thought Leadership Forum, and the Anti-Fraud Forum,” he remarked.
Looking to the future, Kakeeto emphasized the association’s commitment to aligning the business strategies of regulated financial institutions with the government’s ATMS (Agriculture, Technology, Minerals, including Oil and Gas, and Science and Technology) strategy, which is vital for achieving Uganda’s goal of tenfold economic growth by 2039.
“We will also continue our journey towards embedding sustainability at the core of our industry.” Kakeeto concluded.
