Musasizi Clinches Landslide Re-Election as NRM Chair in Rubanda

Africa-Press – Uganda. State Minister of Finance Henry Musasizi has been overwhelmingly re-elected as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson for Rubanda District, securing 503 votes against his closest rival Drake Owoyesigyere, who managed just 43.

A third contender, Jackson Tumwebonire, did not receive any votes and was reportedly absent during the lining-up process.

Musasizi’s resounding victory reflects his entrenched support among party delegates and positions him to consolidate the NRM’s influence in the district ahead of the 2026 general elections.

In his post-election remarks, the minister urged party unity and called for an end to internal divisions.

“I want to emphasize the importance of cohesion, and I urge you delegates to reject sectarianism and divisionism so that we can promote a unified approach to the district’s development,” Musasizi said.

The election was conducted under heightened security. Rubanda Resident District Commissioner Eric Ssewandigi said security forces were deployed in coordination with sister agencies to ensure a peaceful process, and he expressed confidence that stability would continue throughout the electoral season.

Musasizi’s re-election signals continuity for the NRM in Rubanda, giving the party a stable footing to address development challenges and mobilise grassroots support.

As he begins a new term, attention will now shift to how he steers the district’s political and development agenda under the NRM banner.
