Africa-Press – Uganda. Kitgum District Woman MP and Minister of State for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Lillian Aber, has declared her bid for re-election in the 2026 general elections, pledging to intensify development efforts, especially in agriculture and women’s economic empowerment.
Aber picked up her expression of interest forms from the NRM Electoral Commission offices in Kampala, signalling her intention to retain the party flag for a second term.
Speaking to NBS TV, Aber said her decision to seek re-election was driven by unfinished development initiatives and the need to consolidate progress made in her first term.
She cited achievements in health, education, road infrastructure, and support to women and youth groups as evidence of her performance.
“Agriculture will be my main focus going forward,” she said. “Our people have land, but what they lack is mobilisation, technical guidance, and market access. I want to transform that potential into economic progress.”
Aber also highlighted her support for women’s groups through direct financial assistance, which she said had yielded promising results in boosting household incomes.
She pledged to expand the initiative in the next term.
“As I return, I want to focus less on public relations and more on development projects that directly improve people’s lives,” she added.
The minister also pointed to her role in coordinating disaster response in Kitgum under her national docket, citing relief efforts during elephant invasions and storm damage as part of her intervention at the local level.
Aber, who was first elected in 2021, is seeking to retain both her parliamentary seat and her influence in shaping national and local development policy.
