Africa-Press – Uganda. The state minister of Finance Henry Musasizi has opened the 2nd peer-to-peer learning conference on financials services banking and insurance in Kampala.
The conference was under the theme “Digital Innovation in financial services to Boost cross Boarder Trade and productivity:Empowering East Africa’s Fin Tech Ecosystem.”
The conference attracted heads of regulatory authorities,investors,fintech companies and leaders in the East African community to engage in impactful public private dialogue and also reflect on regional experiences.
While delivering a key note address,Minister Musasizi noted that the conference is timely for the region’s financial sector adding that like ICT has continued to revolutionise access and delivery of financial services.
“In 2023 alone,East Africa’s conducted more than Shs 36 billion mobile money transactions, valued at USD 200 billion.”Minister Musasizi noted.
Musasizi further highlighted that in Uganda the financial inclusion rate has risen from 28% in 2019 to over 66% to date. He adds that with more than 25 million registered mobile money accounts.
“These changes present unprecedented opportunities for deeper integration,greater financial inclusion and more sustainable development.”Minister Musasizi highlighted.
