Diaspora Youth Pledge to Renew Museveni’S 2026 Candidature

Africa-Press – Uganda. A group of 30 youth leaders from the NRM Diaspora League have pledged their full support for President Yoweri Museveni’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Representing over 500 NRM-aligned youth based in countries including the USA, Turkey, Germany, Rwanda, and Sudan, the group declared their readiness to mobilize support globally for the ruling party.

The youth made their pledge during a strategic meeting convened at the President’s Office in Kampala, chaired by Abbey Walusimbi, senior presidential advisor on diaspora affairs and chairperson of the NRM Diaspora League.

The team was led by Sylvia Kakyo Flower, patron of the group and Chairperson of the USA PLU Chapter.

Kakyo praised President Museveni for spearheading development initiatives such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga, describing them as tools for mass transformation into the money economy.

She reaffirmed the youth’s commitment to defending the NRM’s legacy and countering misinformation.

“We intend to promote President Museveni’s ideology and movement that encourages the solidarity of all Ugandans. Our mission is to foster peaceful coexistence, stability, and socio-economic transformation,” she said.

Walusimbi, in his address, emphasized the importance of diaspora youth in shaping the country’s political future.

He encouraged them to participate actively in mobilization campaigns and to renew Museveni’s candidacy at the party level before the national polls.

“Youth and women are a vital asset to President Museveni’s continued leadership,” Walusimbi said. “We must fasten our belts and lead the drive to renew his mandate through the NRM Diaspora Independent Taskforce.”

He urged the youth to reject sectarian ideologies based on religion or tribe and instead focus on discipline, patriotism, and the NRM’s core values of unity and development.

He also promised government support for diaspora-led investment clubs and reintegration efforts for Ugandans returning from abroad.

Janet Agaba, a member of the taskforce, called on the government to support returnees through tax incentives on imported goods and technical support.

“By leveraging skills and experiences gained abroad, we can contribute to innovation, fill skill gaps, and stimulate economic development in Uganda,” she said.

The youth also appealed for structured collaboration with government programs to enable them to transfer skills and create jobs for their peers at home.

The Kampala meeting signals the beginning of intensified diaspora mobilization under the NRM’s 2026 roadmap, with the party betting on youthful global networks to defend its record and renew President Museveni’s mandate.
