Africa-Press – Uganda. Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) has been awarded the prestigious Prestige Trophy by Monde Selection, an international quality institute, in recognition of its 25 years of consistently producing high-quality brands.
The accolade was announced during the 2025 Monde Selection Awards ceremony held in Rome, Italy. The award is presented only to companies that have consistently received Grand Gold, Gold, Silver, or Bronze quality awards for a minimum of 25 consecutive years — a testament to UBL’s enduring excellence in brewing.
As UBL approaches its 80th anniversary, the recognition marks a major milestone for one of Uganda’s most iconic manufacturing companies.
“This award validates our manufacturing excellence, producing brands that are not only traded locally, but also regionally and globally,” said Andrew Kilonzo, the Managing Director of Uganda Breweries.
Monde Selection, founded in 1961 and based in Brussels, Belgium, is known globally for its rigorous evaluation of consumer products including food, beverages, and cosmetics.
The institute uses expert panels to assess entries based on sensory attributes, organoleptic criteria, safety, labeling, and compliance with international standards.
Over the years, several UBL brands — including the internationally acclaimed Uganda Waragi — have consistently earned Gold ratings from Monde Selection, reinforcing UBL’s position as a leader in quality and innovation in the beverage sector.
UBL attributes this achievement in part to its Pioneering Grain-to-Glass Sustainability Initiative, which ensures the entire production process — from sourcing raw materials to packaging — adheres to the highest quality and environmental standards.
The initiative also strengthens partnerships with local farmers, promotes ingredient traceability, and invests in cutting-edge production systems.
The Monde Selection recognition further positions Uganda Breweries as a trusted manufacturer of globally competitive products, and affirms Uganda’s place on the international map for quality consumer goods.
