Africa-Press – Uganda. The Minister of State for Finance, Planning, and Economic Development Amos Lugolobi has revealed that President Museveni, will attend the World Population Day Celebrations on Friday in Kayunga District.

Lugolobi further highlighted that the President will commission the construction of the long-awaited Kayunga-Bbaale-Galiraya Road at the same event.

“On the same day as the celebrations, the President will commission the construction of the much-awaited Kayunga-Galiraya Road, which will drastically reduce travel time and connect remote areas to markets and opportunities,” he said.

Reflecting on the progress Uganda has made over the years under the leadership of the ruling NRM Party, Lugolobi highlighted key milestones in population-related indicators.

“Life expectancy at birth has increased from 43 years in 1991 to 68.2 years in 2024. Infant mortality has reduced from 122 deaths per 1,000 live births to just 34,” he stated.

He also mentioned that maternal mortality has significantly decreased from 506 to 189 deaths per 100,000 live births.

Lugolobi continued to outline improvements in education and technology, noting that primary school enrolment surged from 8.8 million pupils in 2018 to 10.2 million in 2022.

“The literacy rate now stands at 74.4%, ensuring that a significant portion of our population can read and write,” Lugolobi added.
