Africa-Press – Uganda. The National Planning Authority (NPA), Hamis Mugendawala unveiled an ambitious blueprint for progress in Kayunga District ahead of the National World Population Day Celebrations in Kayunga District on Friday, July 11th 2025 with a strategic focus on grass root empowerment and community health.
“This year’s theme speaks directly to the government’s commitment to improve the quality of life of Ugandans,” Mugendawala emphasised.
The chosen theme, “Promoting Population Health and Well-being through the Parish Development Model,” targets the 33% of households still trapped in subsistence agriculture, signalling a comprehensive approach to economic transformation.
Representing NPA’s Executive Director, Joseph Muvawala, Mugendawala revealed a comprehensive program goes beyond traditional celebrations, integrating multi-dimensional community development strategies. Health interventions will include critical services like cancer screening, family planning consultations, and medical equipment donations to local health centers. Environmental conservation takes center stage with plans to plant 20,000 trees, demonstrating a holistic approach to community welfare.
Education emerges as a key priority, with innovative initiatives targeting girls’ empowerment. The program will train girls in producing reusable sanitary towels and provide schools with critical infrastructure like computers, solar systems, and water tanks.
“We know very well that one of the leading causes of school dropouts is girls not having sanitary tools,” Mugendawala noted.
The event, which has been sponsored by partners like the United Nations Population Fund, Centenary Bank, and Stanbic Bank, the World Population Day aligns with Uganda’s ambitious economic strategy, aiming to grow the economy tenfold from $53 billion to $500 billion by 2040.
