Alupo Launches Re-Election Campaign in Magoro

Africa-Press – Uganda. Uganda’s Vice President, Jessica Alupo Epel, on Saturday launched her re-election campaign for the Katakwi District Woman Member of Parliament seat at a colourful event in Magoro Town Council, drawing a massive crowd of enthusiastic supporters and senior government officials.

Hundreds of residents dressed in National Resistance Movement (NRM) colours turned out in a strong show of loyalty as Alupo kicked off her bid ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The rally featured high-profile endorsements, youth-led processions, and vibrant performances by local artists and cultural troupes.

In her address, Vice President Alupo expressed gratitude to the people of Katakwi for their consistent support throughout her tenure.

“I am deeply grateful for the love and support you’ve given me. I remain committed to championing your needs, especially by ensuring you fully benefit from government projects,” she said.

Earlier in the day, Alupo commissioned a textile skilling program at St. Stephen’s Skills Development Centre at Katakwi Catholic Church, where she emphasized the importance of equipping young people with practical and vocational skills.

The rally was also attended by Minister for Energy and Mineral Development, Ruth Nankabirwa, who announced a major power infrastructure project for the district.

“The government will soon connect 25 trading centres to the national power grid and install 15 transformers across Katakwi. We are replacing wooden poles with more durable concrete ones to ensure a stable electricity supply,” said Nankabirwa, adding that the project is funded by KfW, Japan, and the World Bank under the Teso electrification program.

A minister from Bunyoro also addressed the crowd, praising Alupo for her discipline, integrity, and commitment to development under the NRM.

“Alupo is not only our Vice President; she is a symbol of loyalty, service, and vision. Let us vote for her in overwhelming numbers,” the minister said to applause from supporters in Magoro Sub-county.

The event ended in celebration, with supporters waving banners and chanting pro-Alupo slogans while dancing to local music that echoed across the town.

With her early and well-organized campaign launch, Alupo is setting the pace for what promises to be a vibrant and closely watched political season in Katakwi.

She faces competition in the NRM primaries from Akurut Viola, Anyakoit Sisilia, and Anuken Angela.
