Africa-Press – Uganda. Kigezi Region Police have announced their readiness to provide maximum security ahead of the upcoming elections, beginning with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries scheduled for July 17, 2025.
Speaking to the media, Kigezi Police Spokesperson Elly Maate said the force has fully deployed personnel across the region to safeguard the electoral process and ensure that voters can freely and safely exercise their rights.
“We are committed to peaceful elections in all parts of Uganda,” Maate said. “Our theme is centered on cooperation with the public to achieve this goal.”
Maate urged residents to uphold law and order, avoid criminal activity, and follow instructions from electoral and security authorities.
He emphasized that discipline will be key to maintaining calm throughout the voting period.
“I want to urge citizens to keep law and order, refrain from criminal acts, and follow instructions from relevant authorities,” Maate said.
He also issued a warning to individuals or groups who may attempt to disrupt the elections or defy guidelines issued by the NRM Electoral Commission.
“Anyone intending to disrupt the exercise or violate electoral guidelines will face the full force of the law,” Maate cautioned.
The police have appealed for public cooperation and emphasized that community involvement is crucial in achieving a safe, transparent, and successful election process.
