Africa-Press – Uganda. The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has taken its mobilisation drive to Mbarara City with the launch of its Ankole sub-regional offices.

The event was graced by prominent opposition figures including PFF Vice Chairperson Dr. Michael Lulume Bayigga, MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, and retired Major General Gregory Mugisha Muntu, who also serves as the National Coordinator of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT).

During the gathering, the group unveiled and swore in its interim Ankole leadership team and formally opened its regional offices.

The event also served to publicly clarify the relationship between PFF and ANT—two groups that appear to be moving in strategic tandem ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The PFF was launched last month, naming new national leaders and declaring its mission to “restore accountability and citizen-centred governance.”

Though still in its infancy, the movement has gained traction particularly among former loyalists of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), from which many of its current leaders — including Ssemujju — originally hailed.

The presence of Gen Muntu—who also left FDC to form ANT in 2019—added symbolic weight to the event, reinforcing PFF’s credentials as part of a broader realignment within Uganda’s opposition.

The leaders urged residents of Ankole to organise at the grassroots level and prepare for a sustained political campaign rooted in regional mobilisation and ethical leadership.
