Nsambya Furniture Workshop'S Digital Craftsmanship Success

Africa-Press – Uganda. In the heart of Kampala’s Nsambya neighborhood, a once-modest roadside carpentry point has transformed into one of Uganda’s most vibrant examples of how tradition can meet technology.

Nsambya Furniture Workshop, also known as Nsambya Furniture Store, has become a household name for custom-made furniture — and a digital-age success story.

Founded by Ivan Ssegujja , born on April 8, 2000, in Mukono District, the workshop began with little more than hand tools and a vision. Through dedication to quality craftsmanship and a passion for training young artisans, Ssegujja steadily built the brand, creating a hub where beds, sofas, wardrobes, and dining sets are custom-built using locally sourced woods such as mahogany, muvule, and other sustainable species.

What sets Nsambya Furniture Workshop apart is its ability to blend Ugandan cultural motifs with modern design, appealing to both traditional and contemporary tastes.

Beyond physical craftsmanship, the business has fully embraced the digital marketplace, using platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp, and Google Business to showcase products, interact with clients, and attract orders from as far as the diaspora.

The workshop’s growth has also had a tangible community impact. Employing between 15 and 25 people, including master carpenters, upholsterers, and apprentices, it provides on-the-job training to youth, equipping them with marketable skills.

The operation, now based along Ggaba Road opposite the Total petrol station and next to Nsambya Catholic Church, includes a carpentry area, a showroom, and a finishing section equipped with circular saws, sanding machines, and workbenches.

Ivan’s vision extends beyond selling furniture. Plans are underway to expand production capacity, introduce eco-friendly product lines, and establish a larger facility that will serve as both a showroom and a training center.

His goal is to elevate the “Made in Uganda” label and position the workshop as a beacon of quality, youth entrepreneurship, and cultural authenticity in the East African furniture market.

From hammer and chisel to hashtags and high-resolution product videos, Nsambya Furniture Workshop has shown that Ugandan craftsmanship can thrive in the digital era — and inspire a new generation of makers to dream big.
