Diamond Trust Bank Strengthens Cybersecurity with Global Certification

Africa-Press – Uganda. Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) has officially attained the internationally recognised ISO 27001:2022 certification, affirming its commitment to maintaining a robust Information Security Management System (ISMS).

This milestone highlights DTB’s proactive approach to protecting customer data, enhancing operational resilience, and mitigating cyber risks across its digital platforms.

DTB’s Managing Director, Godfrey Ssebaana, described the certification as a crucial victory within the bank’s PRIDE Strategy, which prioritizes risk mitigation, operational excellence, and continuous innovation to counter emerging cyber threats.

“This certification represents a key milestone in our journey towards operational excellence,” said Ssebaana. “It strengthens our ability to protect customer data and fortifies the trust between DTB and its clients.”

The certificate was presented by Mike Kamau, Managing Director of Certi-Trust, who commended DTB’s dedication to securing its digital infrastructure.

“We are proud to award this certification to DTB in recognition of their remarkable diligence and foresight,” Kamau said. “This achievement sets a powerful benchmark for the entire financial services sector.”

Uganda’s financial landscape is rapidly digitizing, with mobile and internet banking becoming everyday tools. However, this shift has increased vulnerability to cyberattacks.

The National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA-U) reports a steady rise in cyber incidents, with banks frequently targeted through sophisticated scams including fake alerts and fraudulent loan applications.

In this environment, DTB’s certification goes beyond symbolism—it signifies a concrete commitment to cyber resilience aligned with the Bank of Uganda’s cybersecurity guidelines.

These require financial institutions to adopt risk-based controls, perform regular vulnerability assessments, and promptly report cyber incidents.

The Uganda Bankers Association (UBA) has also been instrumental in advocating for sector-wide cybersecurity improvements, including enhanced training, intelligence sharing, and simulation exercises.

As Uganda advances toward becoming a regional fintech hub, DTB’s ISO 27001:2022 certification raises the bar for the industry.

It calls on all financial institutions to embed cybersecurity into strategic decision-making, invest in next-generation technologies, and cultivate a culture of security and innovation.

With this achievement, Diamond Trust Bank not only strengthens its own defenses but also leads the way toward a safer, more resilient digital financial ecosystem in Uganda.
