Mityana Delegates Endorse Among for NRM CEC Position

Africa-Press – Uganda. In a move that reflects growing momentum behind her political influence, delegates of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Mityana District have formally endorsed Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among for the position of Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) ahead of the party’s internal elections scheduled for August.

The endorsement was made during a high-level district delegates’ meeting that brought together NRM leaders and supporters from all four constituencies in Mityana. The delegates vowed to rally grassroots support in favour of Among’s bid, describing her as a unifying figure with a strong track record of leadership.

“We believe in her ability to represent and amplify grassroots voices at the highest levels of the party,” said one delegate,” Eva Kyagera , the NRM councilor from Ssekanyonyi subcounty said.

” She has proven herself in Parliament, and we know she will do the same within the NRM structure.”

Representing Among at the meeting, former Minister of Sports Charles Bakkabulindi emphasized her commitment to bridging the long-standing gap between the Central Executive Committee (CEC) and Parliament in the interest of improving service delivery.

“Rt. Hon. Anita Among is not just seeking a title,” Bakkabulindi told the delegates. “She is committed to creating synergy between CEC and Parliament to ensure that our people feel the impact of the party’s leadership.”

Among, currently serving as Speaker in the 11th Parliament, is positioning herself as a strong contender for one of the top-ranking seats within the ruling party a position currently held by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Rebecca Kadaga, who has also expressed interest in retaining the post.

Despite the enthusiastic show of support, some delegates expressed caution, urging candidates seeking high-level positions not to neglect the grassroots after securing office.

“We are tired of being remembered only during elections,we want leaders who remain connected to the people they serve,”John Kasozi ,a district delegate ,Mityana.

Among’s endorsement in Mityana is being interpreted as a strategic shift within the NRM’s internal dynamics, as power blocs begin to realign ahead of the party’s structural elections.

Her leadership style and ability to consolidate support across regions are being seen as assets that could reshape the party’s top ranks.

As the August elections approach, political observers will be watching closely to see whether Among’s rising popularity can translate into a national mandate within the NRM’s powerful Central Executive Committee.
