Africa-Press – Uganda. A total of 61 youth from Kagadi District were on Friday recruited into the Uganda People’s Defence Force, while 13 others were handed over to Police on allegations of submitting fake academic papers.
Captain Wilson Kato Agaba, the Public Relations Officer for UPDF Recruitment Team Five in charge of the Bunyoro Sub-region, confirmed the development during the exercise at Kagadi District Headquarters.
Out of 88 candidates shortlisted, 78 turned up for the recruitment. Of these, 61 successfully passed medical examinations and presented valid academic credentials, including only four females.
Thirteen were arrested for presenting forged academic documents, two were disqualified due to ringworm infections, and another two were found to be above the required age limit.
Captain Wilson commended the overall health of Kagadi’s youth, noting that most were free from serious illnesses such as HIV/Aids.
He encouraged those who did not succeed to prepare and apply again in the next recruitment phase.
Meanwhile, Kagadi Resident District Commissioner Caroline Nashemeza Muyambi applauded the youth for their interest in serving under the NRM government.
She urged the new recruits to maintain discipline and commitment in their military careers.
The successful recruits have been given three days to report to Kaweweta Military Training School in Ngoma District.
