Africa-Press – Uganda. The 4th edition of the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon on August 23, 2025, brought together thousands of runners and dignitaries for what has become one of Uganda’s signature sporting and tourism events.

Participants turned out in large numbers for the 42km, 21km, 10km, and 5km races, all flagged off against the spectacular snow-capped backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains.

In the elite 42km contest, Bernard Cheptoch from Bukwo claimed victory, improving on his third-place finish in the previous edition.

“I worked hard for this moment and I am happy to take the top position this year,” he said after crossing the finish line.

The event also attracted international figures, including Athletics Commentator Rob Walker, who tested his endurance in the 21km run and admitted the course left him struggling to stand.

Several dignitaries joined the thousands of participants, among them Kenya’s Deputy Speaker of Parliament Gladys Shollei, who praised the marathon as ideal preparation for international competitions, and Uganda’s State Minister for ICT Godfrey Baluku Kabyanga. Juliana Kagwa, Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Tourism Board, also attended the event.

Tusker Lite, the title sponsor, led a strong backing from partners. Uganda Breweries Managing Director Andrew Kilonzo and Tusker Lite Brand Manager Denise Nazzinda said the marathon had grown beyond a race into a powerful platform for promoting fitness and tourism in the Rwenzori region.

Winners in the different race categories shared a prize kitty of Shs150 million. Organisers hailed the event’s role in cementing Kasese as a tourism hub and building the marathon into a premier adventure experience in East Africa.
