Africa-Press – Uganda. Jane Frances Acilo’s political bid for the Oyam District Woman Member of Parliament seat received a significant boost on Thursday when President Museveni publicly signed her official campaign poster at State House.
The gesture, made during a meeting on NRM’s 2026–2031 election preparations, positioned Acilo as one of the most visible frontrunners in the ruling party.
The move marked Acilo as the first parliamentary aspirant to receive such recognition from the President in the current election cycle.
It underscores the trust and confidence that the NRM leadership places in her ability to consolidate party support and drive grassroots transformation in Oyam.
Ms Acilo thanked the President for what she called “impactful meeting”, adding: “We discussed grassroots priorities for Oyam and committed to promoting local income generation while protecting our shared progress. I am grateful for your wisdom and guidance.”
Oyam District, long considered a Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) stronghold, has seen growing NRM visibility under Acilo’s mobilization efforts.
Her rise within the party reflects a renewed push to expand the NRM’s influence in northern Uganda.
Unveiling her agenda, Acilo pledged to champion household-level income initiatives and community-based development.
“My leadership will focus on practical solutions to everyday challenges,” she said. “I am committed to empowering families with the tools they need to secure steady incomes and dignified livelihoods.”
She added that the President’s gesture was both “an honor and a responsibility” that reinforced her commitment to advancing the NRM’s prosperity-for-all vision.
With Museveni’s visible backing, Acilo enters the race with considerable momentum, setting the tone for what is expected to be a fiercely contested election season in Oyam as the district prepares for the 2026 general elections.
