Africa-Press – Uganda. Uganda Cranes head coach Morley Byekwaso has expressed confidence that his team can take advantage of Senegal’s vulnerabilities when the two sides clash in the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Speaking to the media ahead of the encounter, Byekwaso acknowledged Senegal’s quality but maintained that his side is prepared to exploit any opportunity.

“We are playing a well-organised team that has been in the tournament for a long time. We have played them in friendlies, and we know their strengths. The Senegalese are very physical, but every team has weaknesses,” he said.

Uganda’s journey to this stage has been historic.

The Cranes reached the CHAN quarter-finals for the first time after a dramatic 3-3 draw with South Africa, a match marked by VAR controversy and roaring support from thousands of home fans.

Before that, the team secured back-to-back victories: a 2-0 win against Niger and a 3-0 triumph over Guinea, results that lifted them to the top of Group C for the first time in CHAN history.

The home crowd has played a vital role in pushing Byekwaso’s men forward, providing both energy and belief.

Senegal, who arrived in Uganda this week, carry both pedigree and reputation as defending champions.

They are widely regarded as one of the tournament’s most disciplined and physical sides.

However, Byekwaso insists his Cranes are ready to meet the challenge head-on, saying even the strongest teams can be undone.

Uganda now shoulders the hopes of the region after co-hosts Kenya and Tanzania were eliminated from the tournament on Friday.

The Cranes are the only East African team left standing, and their progress has become a symbol of regional pride in a championship jointly hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

A victory against Senegal would not only mark a historic achievement for Uganda but also keep East Africa’s flag flying in CHAN 2024.
