Africa-Press – Uganda. The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has officially launched standard Habits, or Cloaks, for Kadhis to wear during official functions, describing them as instruments of Muslim leadership across districts.
The ceremony, held at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) Conference Hall in Old Kampala, drew a large gathering of Kadhis and senior Muslim clerics.
In his address, Mufti Mubaje urged Kadhis to uphold the UMSC Constitution in executing their duties and to focus on strengthening development within Muslim community structures.
“You are all aware of the sharp challenges we have gone through in the recent past. We humbly express our profound gratitude to Almighty Allah, who sheltered us and enabled us to sail through. It is now time we marshal all our efforts and resources to enhance development within our structures,” he said.
He revealed that the Council had established a self-sustaining financial mechanism, allowing it to function independently without reliance on external aid.
Cautioning against divisions, Mufti Mubaje criticized foreign interference in local Muslim affairs. “We are not going to accept any foreign embassy from any Muslim country dictating to us how to administer our Muslim affairs here, because we have our Constitution for guidance,” he stressed.
The Mufti also announced that the official Cloaks are in the process of being gazetted as UMSC property, warning that unauthorized possession will attract prosecution.
Regional Assistants to the Mufti, County Sheikhs, and Mosque Imams are next in line to receive the attire.
During the event, UMSC Secretary General Haji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi presented a quarterly report, while Badru Kiggundu, chairperson of the Islamic Call University College, appealed to Kadhis to mobilize resources to support needy students.
