Bishop Naimanhye Names Nine New Canons in Busoga Diocese

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Rev Paul Moses Samson Naimanhye, bishop of Busoga Diocese, has announced the appointment of nine clergy to be installed as Canons of the Church of Uganda.

The announcement came on Saturday during his pastoral farewell visit at St. Luke Buwenge Church of Uganda.

Among the notable names are Ven. Rev. Micheal Jackson Kintu, Archdeacon of Muguluka; Rev. Simon Peter Dembe Lya Yesu, Provincial Missions Coordinator; Ven Rev Patrick Rowland Kawangula, Archdeacon of Naminange; and Rev. Joshua Mutabule, Associate Vicar of St. Andrew’s Church, Jinja.

Others appointed include Ven. Rev. Frederick Kiswiriri, Rev. John Koosi, Rev. Capt. Alfred Hasahya, Rev. Aggrey Mutebe, and Rev. Irene Namazzi.

Bishop Naimanhye said the appointments followed prayerful reflection and were based on the clergy’s proven service and integrity.

“You have been chosen due to your integrity and dedication,” he told the congregation.

“As Canons, you are to be role models to your fellow clergy, preach the Word, and walk with humility and reverence to God.”

He also thanked the Christians of Buwenge for their steadfast support during his nine-year leadership of the diocese and urged them to pray for a smooth transition in the selection of his successor.

The new Canons will be officially installed during the forthcoming ordination service on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Christ’s Cathedral, Bugembe in Jinja City.
