Africa-Press – Uganda. I&M Bank Uganda and the Uganda Green Enterprise Finance Accelerator (Ugefa) have launched a partnership to expand financing and technical support for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) driving green and sustainable business practices in Uganda.

Backed by the European Union and implemented by adelphi global gGmbH, the collaboration targets enterprises in sectors including clean energy, eco-tourism, sustainable manufacturing, waste management, and green mobility.

The launch, held at Protea Hotel in Kampala, coincided with a new call for applications, inviting green SMEs to join the Ugefa programme and access tailored financing and business development services.

Robin Bairstow, chief executive of I&M Bank Uganda, said the partnership reflects the bank’s commitment to leveraging finance as a tool for environmental and social impact.

“We’re excited to partner with Ugefa to support the growth of green businesses in Uganda. Whether it’s helping small enterprises adopt clean energy or financing sustainable agricultural solutions, we’re committed to building a greener, more inclusive future,” he said.

Gibson Nangono, I&M Bank’s Chief Business Officer, added that the initiative provides a platform to support entrepreneurs actively promoting sustainability.

“We’re proud to support those building a cleaner and more sustainable Uganda, and to make our own operations more environmentally friendly,” he said.

Cristina Bănuţă, Programme Manager at the EU Delegation to Uganda, said the partnership would enhance inclusive growth and environmental resilience.

“By extending access to finance and technical support for green enterprises, we are fostering inclusive growth and greater environmental resilience,” she said.

UGEFA is fully funded by the European Union, while I&M Bank Uganda is part of the Nairobi-listed I&M Group PLC, operating across East Africa.

Green enterprises interested in joining the programme can apply via the Ugefa website using the code IMBANK25.
